Nothing like the real thing
Article Abstract:
The National Gallery in London, England, is staging an exhibition entitled 'The Art of Cornelius Gijsbrechts.' There is limited information about this artist, who was Dutch and worked in the second half of the 17th century. It appears that he painted only trompe-l'oeil pieces. Almost all the paintings in this exhibition date from 1688 to 1672, when he was working at the Danish court. The main exhibit is a work entitled 'The Reverse of a Framed Painting.'

Even old masters had off days
Article Abstract:
The National Gallery in London, England, is currently staging an exhibition entitled 'Masters of Light - Dutch Painting from Utrecht in the Golden Age.' This exhibition shows works by painters including Dirck van Barburen, Hendrick ter Bruggen and Gerard van Honthorst. They are not particularly well known, and are also not part of the secular-Protestant mainstream of Dutch art in the 17th century. They show some talent, but do not seem to have really known what to do with this talent. Their works are obscure, and cannot really be taken very seriously.
