Exit signs flash for GP fundholders
Article Abstract:
The UK Labour party believes that GP fundholding has been responsible for the emergence of a two-tier system within the National Health Service. This contrast with the views of many GP fundholders, who feel that they have been able to make savings and improve the standard of service to patients. Research indicates that GPs may not be the best people to commission health care. Indeed, if they continue to do so, prices could rise as providers realise that price is not a key issue for customers. A future Labour government would probably abolish GP fundholding.

Plenty of PEPs, no more pups
Article Abstract:
The financial services industry is seeking to avoid having a stricter regulatory framework imposed upon it by placing greater emphasis on staff training. This should help to overcome problems with the mis-selling of personal investment products. It is now widely accepted that customers are not in a good position to compare competing financial services products, and that they therefore have a strong need for protection. Large companies such as Norwich Union are now introducing specific training schemes.

Legal worries for auditors
Article Abstract:
The Audit Commission is seeking permission from the House of Lords to appeal against a Court of Appeal decision that public sector auditors have a duty of car to local authorities and NHS trusts. The case from which this decision arose could encourage a number of local councils which have suffered losses after taking advice from district auditors to take action for negligence. It now seems that district auditors may have to operate under much stricter conditions.
