Painted into a corner
Article Abstract:
The Scottish art world has been split by plans for a new National Gallery of Scottish Art in Glasgow, Scotland. Some observers feel that it will be a key tourist attraction, while many art critics, academics and artists feel that it will isolate Scottish art, moving it away from its currently international perspective. The development would allow improved access to the Scottish art collection, but should not be devoted entirely to Scottish art.

Pictures of life, visions of Heaven
Article Abstract:
The paintings of Maurice Denis, currently being exhibited at the Walker Art Gallery in Liverpool, UK, challenge the traditional view of him as a talented theorist but a reactionary artist. He work has suffered from neglect, as the 20th century has tended to reject the classical style and the iconography of motherhood, which is very common in his paintings. New views on his significance compare him closely with Matisse.

Here lies frame and fortune
Article Abstract:
When art experts insist that a painting is not by the supposed artist, the owner cannot prove its origin. Pigment analysis and other research is ignored if the specialist does not authenticate the picture. Sabina Clayton believes she has a Constable painting of Salisbury Cathedral, Bob James has spent 46,000 pounds sterling trying to authenticate a supposed Cezanne, and Mark Harris thinks his picture is a Picasso.
