Famiglia feelings
Article Abstract:
Italian filmmaker Marco Bellocchio enjoyed a feeling of complete freedom when making his film 1965 film 'Fists in the Pocket,' which has now been re-released. He used family money, and shot the film at his parents' home. It is possible to have mixed views about his use of epilepsy in the film, but he feels that epilepsy allowed him to show something that could be immediately dramatized. His attitude towards hypocrisy and conformism has remained unchanged since the film was first released, but he no longer feels that he wants to destroy everything.

On the fringes
Article Abstract:
It would be hard to make a convincing film about the Pigalle district of Paris, France, without actually having lived there, according to French film director Laurent Bouhnik. This district is the focus for his film 'Select Hotel,' which portrays people who have been marginalized by society. Bouhnik has gained a strong reputation for making short films, but found it hard to gain support for a feature film. Actress Julie Gayet, who stars in the film, admits that she was deeply moved by playing someone living in very difficult circumstances.

When is a film not a film?
Article Abstract:
Modern ruins are fascinating, according to filmmaker John Sergeant. He is particularly interested in 1960s rocket-launch sites in the US. His essay-film 'The Blue Summer' shows scepticism about technological progress, but the film itself would not have been possible without latest technology, including the Avid digital editing system. Sergeant's aim for this film was to construct a story based partly on personal experience but which blurred into imagined experience and also contained documentary elements.
