Article Abstract:
Defence Technology Enterprises (DTE) ceased to operate in 1990 through financial failure. It was established in 1985 to improve the transfer of innovations to industry. It put 'ferrets' into the four main Research Establishments. The size of the technology database was considered important but not all innovations were easily transferable and some already had contracts. British industry has limited facilities for dealing with innovations due to underinvestment.

This could lead to the end of UK independent design and construction of nuclear warheads. New management methods based on operations managers achieving defined goals may restrict enthusiasm for projects and cause designers to leave.
