First, slice the audience
Article Abstract:
Food-related programmes are extremely popular with television audiences in the UK, even among people who are not particularly good at cooking. BBC1 now broadcasts 29 food or cooking-related programmes each week, with BBC2 at 34, ITV at 18 and Channel 4 around 15, according to Dec 1996 figures. Some viewers are people who cannot afford convenience food, and therefore have to cook, while others like to talk about and eat food but do not wish to go to the trouble of preparing it themselves. Others are concerned with nutrition, while others use food as a social tool.
