Pretty vacant: a fine line in glossy charm
Article Abstract:
The work of artist Gary Hume is currently being exhibited at the Dean Gallery in Edinburgh, Scotland. He uses gloss housepaint on aluminium, and his paintings combine a sense of arbitrariness with a sense of fixity. The predominant themes in this exhibition are girls' faces, orchids and birds. His recent works have involved superimposing several outlines in one image, producing a more blurred effect.
