For Everyman
Article Abstract:
The menswear fashion shows which have been taking place in Paris, France, have given a strong indication about trends in men's fashion for summer 1998. Yohji Yamamoto, for example, placed considerable emphasis on clothing which suits men of all different shapes and sizes, while Rei Kawakubo at Comme des Garcons focused on comfort and ease. Some fashion designers are now beginning to realize that men generally prefer to avoid clothes which have fussy details, preferring those which are classic in design and are easy to wear.

It's for women, darling. Who did you think it was for?
Article Abstract:
Most leading fashion designers who have been showing their ready-to-wear collections for spring/summer 1998 have perpetuated the myth that all women are extremely tall and thin. There has been strong emphasis on extremely sheer, delicate dresses, and some designers have also used very unusual shapes. There is a strong sense that fashion is becoming increasingly directionless as the 21st century approaches. One of the few exceptions is Alexander McQueen, whose designs feature strong, structured tailoring.

Milan
Article Abstract:
There is very strong interest in fashion in Milan, Italy, and the city has some extremely exclusive fashion stores. They are particularly busy during the annual fashion week, when the city is inundated with fashion editors and models. The most popular stores include Prada, Gucci, Alberta Ferretti and Blumarine. Milan's designers produce clothing which is the height of fashion, but also excel at producing clothes which are desirable, of high quality and more practical than high fashion.
