At Holyport Church of England School near Maidenhead, England the headteacher has given a single teacher responsibility for the school's efforts regarding very able children. Any special talent is identified and lessons adapted to stimulate the special ability. Special effort is made for children who struggle so it is thought only fair to do the same for the gifted child. It is found that only a small amount of time is needed to make the special adaptations necessary. The Headteacher Mrs Johanna Raffan is reluctant to accelerate children, that is put them into a class of older children, as they are seldom exceptionally able across the whole curriculum.

Spotted dick with German

King's boys' school in Rochester, Kent, UK is pioneer of a scheme to produce fluent German-speaking pupils. Pre-preparatory pupils are taught main subjects in German. The aim is to sit GCSE's in German and allow pupils to receive a professional competence certificate in German allowing them to study at German universities. Native high-quality German teachers have been recruited on 3-year contracts. A house has been purchased in east Germany as a geography field centre.
