Foreign policy will determine military goals
Article Abstract:
It is vital that the UK government's Strategic Defence Review gives a clear indication that the government is taking into account the needs of service men and women, who are now required to be extremely skilled and flexible. The UK is now entering a period of expeditionary warfare, with operations overseas being mounted from the UK. This makes it necessary to have flexible forces which can be rapidly mounted and deployed. The government must ensure that the strategic background to the structural review of the armed forces is clearly detailed.

Thursday War in the Channel is dress rehearsal for real thing in the Gulf
Article Abstract:
British troops have been involved in an exercise named Thursday War as part of their preparations for possible military action against Iraq as that country continues to defy the United Nations. Armed Forces Minister John Reid personally viewed rehearsals involving destroyer HMS Edinburgh and four other warships. Naval officers were keen to demonstrate to him that their training delivers very good value for money. It is clear that the Navy is now in a very advanced state of readiness for military action in the Gulf.
