The working-class hero who we all wanted to believe in
Article Abstract:
Terry Venables, former manager of Tottenham Hotspur football club and the England football team, had a generally positive image with ordinary people, especially football fans. For this reason, many did not believe allegations made in the 'Panorama' television programme in Oct 1993 that he was involved in illegal business dealings in relation to Tottenham Hotspur football club. This ensured that he could still be chosen as England manager in 1994. He managed to survive because of his charm and charisma, and those who believed in him have only now been proved wrong, as he has been banned from any directorship for seven years.

Go tell it on the mountain, but leave this Jewish boy alone
Article Abstract:
There are a number of negative aspects to efforts to convert Jews to Christianity. One is that these efforts are not matched by efforts to convert Christians to Judaism. This lack of Jewish evangelism has often been interpreted as a sign of exclusion and secretiveness. A further negative aspect is that Christians do not seem to wish to target other religions with the fervour with which they target Jews. Many Jews find it rather unpleasant to be singled out by Christians for conversion.

Spare me and my fellow men from the new orthodoxy: female good, male bad
Article Abstract:
It seems to be common in modern society in the UK to regard men as objects of mockery. Men are portrayed as incapable of communicating, lacking depth and often violent. Double standards are being applied to the same behaviour in men and women. Men who have affairs are mocked by women, while the same women often seek to attract other women's partners. Strong emphasis is now being placed on female values, and male virtues are being rejected.
