Mitterrand and Kohl to discuss 'yes' vote
Article Abstract:
Votes in the French referendum on the Maastricht treaty were 50.81% in favour and 49.18% against, causing doubt about the possibility of applying thetreaty. A poll revealed that many 'yes' voters believed the treaty would establish Germany firmly in Europe, while 'no' voters thought it would increase German supremacy. A referendum is not a sensible method of judging opinion as people with differing views are brought together instead of representing one clear view.
