Article Abstract:

The Royal Ballet has an impressive range of teachers, according to ballet dancer Carlos Acosta, who grew up in Cuba. However, he misses a unifying presence, such as that exerted by Ben Stevenson at the Houston Ballet, where dancers are not left to work on their own as much as they are with the Royal Ballet. He recognizes that he still has much to learn, and wants to ensure that he constantly progresses. He is also aware that his career will inevitably last only a limited length of time.

Birgit Cullberg

Article Abstract:

Choreographer Birgit Cullberg studied ballet and modern dance from an early age, but did not dance professionally until the age of 27. She studied literature at the University of Stockholm, Sweden, and then trained in the UK with Kurt Jooss and his colleague Sigurd Leeder. She returned to Stockholm in 1939, founding a group that in 1944 became the Cullberg Group. She formed the Swedish Dance Theatre in 1946, and in 1949 started the first edition of the Cullberg Ballet.

Viktor Fedotov

Article Abstract:

Conductor Viktor Fedotov was born in Novoalexandrovka, Soviet Union, in 1933. He started playing several instruments at an early age and later studied at the Leningrad Conservatoire. He won the All-Union Competition for Conductors in 1963.
