Frozen vegetables and potato products: market size
Article Abstract:
The UK frozen vegetable market enjoys a 90% household penetration, amounting to 625,000 tons worth at 76 million pounds sterling in 1998. The chips and potato products sector, which posted an 11% increase in volume and 29% in value in 1998, helped the market achieved a 5% in volume increase and 19% in value increase between 1994 and 1998. Despite a 12% increase in value, the green vegetables sector suffered an overall drop of 1% during 1998 and continues to encounter problems in volume terms due to consumers' changing eating habits, rising preference for fresh vegetables and the growing availability and global sourcing of out-of-season fresh vegetables.
