George V. Higgins

Writer and lawyer George V. Higgins gained an MA in English from Stanford University in California before obtaining a law degree from the Boston College Law School. He was admitted to the Massachusetts Bar in 1967, and rose through the ranks to become Special Assistant US Attorney in 1973 before entering the private sector. He ran George V. Higgins Inc from 1973 until 1978, while a partnership, Griffin and Higgins, ran from 1978 to 1982. His first book, 'The Friends of Eddie Coyle,' was published in 1972.

Leonard Matthews

Article Abstract:

Editor and publisher Leonard Matthews first entered the world of publishing when be became editorial assistant at the Amalgamated Press. He returned to editorial work after the second world war, and was responsible for considerable changes at the Amalgamated Press when it was taken over by the Mirror Group in 1958. After his retirement, he set up his own publishing company, Martpress. This focused on books for children.
