'Suspect on his way to Santa's Grotto.'
Article Abstract:
There is always a significant rise in shoplifting in the UK in the pre-Christmas period and during the New Year sales. In 1997, shoplifting cost stores almost 47 million pounds sterling, including crime prevention measures. Shoplifting appears to have risen particularly strongly in 1998, possibly because of the harsher economic climate. Some shoplifters are professionals who steal for a living, while others are merely opportunists who often take considerable risks.
