Growing pains of Thatcher's children
Article Abstract:
The members of the right-wing think tank in the UK who were critical of Princess Diana failed to recognize that they were guilty of putting feeling before reason, the very accusation they levelled at those who reacted very emotionally to Princess Diana's death. They also did not realize that in criticizing the rise in individuality and the increase in fakery they were criticizing former Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher, whose policies served to accelerate these trends. The competitiveness she encouraged brought a greater emphasis on faking and boosted the individualism so strongly opposed by the think tank.

Going on, and on, and on
Article Abstract:
Margaret Thatcher at one stage stated that she intended to remain prime minister for as long as possible, and this led to her being seen as rather arrogant. As the time of the 10th anniversary of her arrival at Downing Street approached, she changed this somewhat, saying that she would carry on until a new generation of potential leaders emerged. She her removal as Conservative party, she has gained a reputation for having led one of the three landmark administrations of the 20th century.

Sunny days as a new man went to bat
Article Abstract:
John Major enjoyed a period of popularity when he first took over from Margaret Thatcher as prime minister and leader of the Conservative party. Cabinet meetings were more relaxed, and he showed modesty and humour. He acted decisively initially, and handled relationships with his predecessor well. However, there were already signs of difficulties, and particular problems were caused by the fact that the predicted economic recovery was not taking place.
