HIV suppression requires near-total adherence; the importance of patient compliance to multi-drug regimens was one of several important findings presented at retrovirus conference
Article Abstract:
Researchers reported at the 6th annual Conference on Retroviruses and Opportunistic Infections on Jan 31-Feb 4, 1999 that HIV patients should comply with at least 95% of their prescribed doses to be able to suppress the virus to undetectable levels. Other findings in the conference include that the rate of AIDS spread has been constant despite the application of strong drug regimen, and that testing negative for HIV does not confirm that there is no infection.
