Hague spells out the 'British Way.' (United Kingdom Conservative party leader William Hague)
Article Abstract:
UK Conservative party leader William Hague has emphasized in a speech at the party's 1998 annual conference that it is now time for a more aggressive approach. He believes that the party must now communicate British values of reduced government intervention, and promised that the party will not simply allow the Labour government to threaten important elements of British life. He stressed the need for Conservatives to be clearly aware why they are different from a Labour government using Conservative-style language.

The media man who is the message...
Article Abstract:
The House of Commons Select Committee before which UK Prime Minister Tony Blair's press secretary Alastair Campbell is appearing is really investigating Campbell's power and how he exercises it. He has gained a reputation for sometimes being very abusive to journalists, but also has considerable charm and wit. He has extensive knowledge of top secret issues, and has handled some situations well. He has made some mistakes, but he does not actually have all the power that is often attributed to him.

William and his troublesome aunt
Article Abstract:
UK Conservative party leader William Hague must address many challenges as the party holds its 1997 annual conference in Blackpool, England. Most importantly, he must deal with the fact that large parts of the party have not yet understood why it lost the general election on May 1, 1997. He must battle against Conservatives who believe that the party lost the election simply because it was divided, and must convince the party of the need to democratize the way in which it is organized.
