Article Abstract:
Tony Harrison's poetry has strong, formal discipline and strong, direct language. Like most poets, he writes for the theatre. He tries to reach people who do not usually read poetry. He feels poetry should be read with the accent of the reader. The Mystery plays were written for a Northern dialect. He rewrote the passion story with God speaking the same language as those he was talking to. He believes in the power of drama rather than the power of religion.

Bishop of Muck comes clean over problems of celibacy
Article Abstract:
The Rt Rev Roderick Wright has resigned as Roman Catholic Bishop of Argyll and the Isles after having disappeared for a short time with a divorced woman. He has stated that he feels physically and spiritually unable to deal with his responsibilities as a bishop. He is one of a growing number of Roman Catholic priests who are finding it very hard to keep their vows of celibacy. Some 100,000 priests have left the Roman Catholic church since 1965.

The Church of England is giving considerable attention to the role and cost of bishops. The church spends around 16 million pounds sterling a year on bishops, but even the bishops themselves recognize that there is confusion about their role and that they need training in areas such as team leadership.
