Housewares retailing
Article Abstract:
The UK housewares market has expanded by around 6% since 1991, with growth being seen in most product sectors. Sales of housewares have traditionally been closely linked with people moving house, but this is no longer the case, and people are increasingly purchasing housewares for their existing home. Retailers are helping to boost sales by giving greater prominence to housewares. Most sales tend to be through mixed retailers, although they are now facing growing competition from specialist retailers.

DIY retailing
Article Abstract:
Sales through DIY retailers in the UK were 5.39 billion pounds sterling in 1994, and DIY retailers account for 3.46% of all retail sales. The sector has become more concentrated over recent years, with large DIY multiples now having considerable buying power. DIY retailers have been negatively affected by the recession, however, and are now likely to attempt to expand into other areas which offer greater profitability.
