How Iraq yet again broke its promises to the UN
Article Abstract:
There is evidence that Iraq has failed to keep the promise it made in Nov 1998 to cooperate fully with United Nations weapons inspectors, according to a report from Unscom Chmn Richard Butler. The strong tone of this report leaves the UK and the US with little opportunity to avoid taking decisive action. United Nations weapons inspectors have encountered a range of difficulties in Iraq, including the restriction of their access to certain sites and the fact that sites have been cleared of evidence before their arrival.

Nato air strikes closer as Serbs defy UN
Article Abstract:
Serbian President Slobodan Milosevic has failed to respond to United Nations demands to withdraw his troops from the province of Kosovo, Yugoslavia. US special envoy Richard Holbrooke has warned that there is now a humanitarian crisis in the province, where many ethnic Albanian refugees remain in the hills, their homes destroyed. It now appears increasingly likely that Nato will make air strikes against Yugoslavia, although Russia has warned against such action.
