Israel and PLO agree to kickstart peace talks
Article Abstract:
The deadlock over the peace talks between Israel and the Palestinians has been broken with an agreement that negotiating committees will resume meetings on Oct 6, 1997. Issues to be discussed initially include the opening of a Palestinian airport and seaport. The agreement to resume talks represents the first positive outcome from the visit to the region of US Secretary of State Madeleine Albright. Israeli Foreign Minister David Levy has proposed a code of conduct to guide further talks.
