How does your psyche measure up?
Article Abstract:
There has been a revival in IQ tests recently, with a leading educationist suggesting that children should be IQ tested at the age of 10, as used to happen in the days of the 11-plus exam. There are a considerable number of politicians who believe that such an approach would improve discipline and offer better opportunities for people from poorer backgrounds. However, IQ tests are by their very nature unjust, and will not meet demands for certainty in educational standards.

Crime is up! Hit the moral panic button
Article Abstract:
Many people in the UK live in fear of becoming a victim of crime, even though research indicates that the vast majority of crime is committed against property, rather than people, and that violent crime is very rare. This fear of crime is creating a moral panic, and it thus becomes even more difficult to retain a sense of proportion. People will always be fascinated by crime, and rejecting criminals serves to define individuals and their values.
