Article Abstract:
Organic food is becoming increasingly popular in the UK, and sales of organic food are now worth 260 million pounds sterling a year. However, organic food is still primarily purchased by young, wealthy people without children, while almost one-third of Britons have never eaten organic food at all. Organic food is finding it hard to establish a position in the mainstream of the food industry, mainly because it is more expensive than conventional equivalents.

It now employs 50 people, and will have turnover of 2.5 million pounds sterling in 1998. There is growing demand for Soil Association approval as the organic food market expands rapidly. The organization has become much more business-like and efficient, and has moved to new offices.
