How many more will die hungry before United Nations rules are changed?

Article Abstract:

The famine in Sudan is actually in a single province, Bahr el Ghazal, and has been caused deliberately by Kerubino Kuanyin Bol, a rebel commander from the province who in 1997 defected to the side of the Sudanese government. He killed many people and stole cattle, food and seed corn. The United Nations was refused permission by the Sudanese government in Feb 1998 to fly to the region, and this resulted in famine. It is now time to reconsider United Nations rules that insist that the authority of the Sudanese government is respected, even though it has not ruled some southern regions since the early 1980s.

Article Abstract:

Civil war in Sudan has had a serious impact on the Nuba people. Of the original around 1 million residents of the remote Nuba Mountains, only around 500,000 remain, with many having fled, been killed or fallen victim to starvation. The Sudanese government has banned all aid agencies, including the United Nations, from the region. The Nuba people have fought with the rebels of the Sudan People's Liberation Army, but the central government is seeking to Islamicize them.

Don't compensate Africa for slavery

Demands to pay Africa reparations for slavery should not be met. It must be remembered that the slave business was entirely controlled by Africans and that slavery existed in Africa long before Europeans became involved.
