How the Levitt deal was hammered out
Article Abstract:
Businessman Roger Levitt originally faced a large number of charges by the Serious Fraud Office when his company, Levitt Financial Services Group, collapsed, especially as it was thought that he had fraudulently altered the accounts. However, he decided to take a strong line against the Serious Fraud Office, and rejected increasingly generous plea bargains. Eventually, he was sentenced only to 180 hours community service, although the Serious Fraud Office and the Attorney General denied that a deal had been offered.

City firms profit from return of feelgood factor
Article Abstract:
The corporate finance departments of City investment banks have seen a strong revival over recent months, and are expected to achieve record performance in 1995. The value of mergers and acquisitions deals is likely to reach levels higher than the previous record year, 1989, and observers believe that this rate of growth will continue for some time to come. The strong recovery in the investment banking sector has also benefited the City property market, with a renewed demand for office space.
