How will we draw the dividing lines if we're all liberals now?
Article Abstract:
The UK Conservative party seems to be shifting towards more libertarian values. This can be regarded as a reasonable development, especially given that the party has a historical claim to a libertarian position. If handled correctly, libertarianism can be presented as an entirely modern stance, in keeping with minimalist government. In contrast, the UK Labour party is tending towards being liberal, rather than libertarian. It has avoided positive discrimination, and is emphasizing the family as the basis of a stable community.

'The party has given up on fairness.' (Conservative MP defects to Labour party)(Column)
Article Abstract:
The Conservative party no longer seems to take account of the basic ethical responsibilities of government, and has no concern for ensuring social unity and encouraging equality. In contrast, the 'new' Labour party is clearly committed to social justice and is prepared to take a strong line on the practical aspects of government. It has acknowledged that disillusion with politics has become a serious problem, and its policies have a strong element of realism.
