'I thought I was drowning.'
Article Abstract:
Slalom canoeist Helen Barnes believes that the constant encouragement of her father Cliff has been crucial to her success in the sport. She feels that becoming one of the world's leading slalom canoeists would reward her father for the time he has devoted to her. Her father states that it has not been easy to train with her. At times, he has felt guilty because he may have been placing her in danger. However, he believes that a serious accident in which she nearly drowned brought them closer together.
