The liberal party animal
Article Abstract:
UK Liberal Democrat MP Charles Kennedy began his political life in the Labour Party, but moved to the Social Democratic Party when it was created in 1981. He was elected Liberal Democrat Pres in 1990, and has now gained a high media profile. He is now widely seen as the most likely successor to party leader Paddy Ashdown. However, some observers have expressed concern about his intentions regarding closer cooperation with the Labour party.

Time for a reality check as Kennedy takes the stage
Article Abstract:
New Liberal Democrat leader Charles Kennedy must try to introduce an element of reality into his party's policy towards the Labour party. He has certain disadvantages compared with former leader Paddy Ashdown, including the fact that he does not have a reputation for developing original ideas. However, he has established a significant media presence, and also benefits from being more genuinely classless than Ashdown or Prime Minister Tony Blair.
