It is widely believed that the forthcoming march in Drumcree, Northern Ireland, will be accompanied by considerable tension and possibly even direct conflict. If this does happen, then the prospects for peace in Northern Ireland will be considerably reduced. There is a danger that the current situation in Northern Ireland will develop into a long-standing confrontation between the security forces and militant loyalists, and violent republicans may also be tempted to become directly involved.
