If you hum it, he'll make it pay
Article Abstract:
Ronnie S Lee learnt tap dancing and made his first professional appearance when he was 10, on 'The Milton Berle Show.' At 13 he played in 'The King and I' on Broadway. When 22 he began 'Group Sales', a box office business, which became very successful. In 1980 he saw 'Steaming' and decided to produce it on Broadway, which won a Tony award but was unsuccessful financially. He returned to Britain and gained recognition with 'South Pacific'in 1987. Lee promotes his shows by inviting party-bookers to a foretaste of the production, but he always produces revivals such as 'The Sound of Music' at Sadler's Wells, London in the summer of 1992.

Filling the stalls
Article Abstract:
The London Festival Orchestra's founder-director, Ross Pople, organises an annual festival, sponsored by British Gas, of concerts in cathedrals with cathedral choirs. This gives the choirs an opportunity to sing with an orchestra rather than an organ and the organist conducts the choral items. Ross Pople conducts the orchestral works. The cathedral organist and choir have little time to rehearse for the festival and the organist is often inexperienced in orchestral conducting. Choice of pieces can include those suitable for services. The choristers provide a service of worship and a performance to an audience in one.
