Insiders' guide to the Friday night drop
Article Abstract:
The case of Patrick Weever, former deputy City editor of The Sunday Telegraph, who lost his claim for unfair dismissal, has highlighted the shadowy links between some financial journalists and City public relations firms. It has been common practice for some time for public relations executives to secretly supply information to financial journalists working for Sunday newspapers. This approach allows the public relations executive's clients to break bad news as painlessly as possible, while the financial journalists benefit from being able to make more accurate forecasts about a company's performance.

Outrage at television's 'glamourisation' of Oswald Mosley
Article Abstract:
Sir Oswald Mosley, who lead the British Union of Fascists, is portrayed too sympathetically in a four-part drama of his life produced by Channel 4, according to people who were opposed to him in the 1930s and 1940s. They feel that the series makes him appear charming and intelligent, whereas he was in fact an incompetent politician who closely followed the views of Hitler. There is particular concern about the fact that the drama indicates that Mosley was not anti-Semitic.

Pinpoint accuracy informs the art of the new soft sell
Article Abstract:
It is now possible for the marketing industry to use a wide range of technology to gain detailed information about the lifestyles, likes and dislikes of people living in specific areas. This allows advertising agencies to run very specific campaigns. Supermarket loyalty cards have been a particularly effective way of gaining specific consumer information, and there are now large databases giving details about what people buy, when they buy it and where they live.
