Refusing to eat is not a disease, but a solution to an impossible dilemma
Article Abstract:
Eating disorders such as anorexia are widely seen as a disease. Adopting this view is misguided, as it relieves others of the responsibility for doing anything to eliminate them. Anorexia is in fact a secular form of fasting, allowing the sufferer to regain control and attract considerable attention. It is a response to a culture which encourages people to consume more and more and yet remain thin. The real cure for eating disorders lies in making the connections between a culture of consumption and the contradictory demands this places on people in modern society.

Rape, feminism and Fay Weldon's desperate attempts to shock
Article Abstract:
Fay Weldon's main motivation for her highly controversial claim that rape is not as bad as some women make it out to be and that it should be returned to the category of aggravated assault seems to be to attract publicity for her television series 'Big Women.' However, the view that feminism has gone too far is actually held secretly by many different types of people in the UK. Most people are favour of equal rights for men and women, but it takes little prompting for some to feel that women now have the advantage.
