Iran's intelligentsia shaken by wave of murders
Article Abstract:
There have been a number of attacks recently on members of Iran's intelligentsia. These have come at a time when the Iranian government has been seeking to encourage Iranian people living elsewhere to return to the country and to invest. It is clear that there is a force wishing to destroy the civil society proclaimed by President Khatami after he was elected in 1997. Some observers believe that the clerics are behind the attacks, while others believe that there may be an outside attempt to encourage Iranians to oppose the Revolutionary Guards and Ayatollah Khamenei.

Lies, deceit and betrayal
Article Abstract:
Nato military action against the Serbs is having a negative impact on the ethnic Albanians in Kosovo, Yugoslavia, whom military action was intended to protect. An extremely serious humanitarian crisis has developed as the Serbs have struck very harshly against the Albanians, many of whom are now fleeing Kosovo. Western countries have been prepared to go to war to put an end to the suffering of the Albanians in Kosovo, but have shown that they are not willing to risk soldiers' lives to bring this about.

Army told Milosevic: 'You can't surrender.'
Article Abstract:
Political sources in Belgrade, Yugoslavia, indicate that officers in Yugoslavia's Third Army have expressed strong opposition to the peace agreement reached by Nato and President Slobodan Milosevic. Under this agreement, Milosevic accepted European Union-Nato-Russian plans for ceasing the Nato air strikes. Army officers feel that a limited force of Yugoslav troops must be kept in Kosovo, Yugoslavia, but this is unlikely to prove acceptable to Nato. However, Milosevic remains in a strong position.
