Ireland's peaceful revolution
Article Abstract:
The Republic of Ireland has seen very strong economic growth over recent years, although many people are not aware of this because political issues dominate the headlines. Its economy expanded by around 7% in 1995, and it now has a current account surplus of 6% of Gross National Product and inflation of only 2.5%. It has particularly benefited from the large transfer of funds across the exchanges from other European Union countries, which has boosted GDP and allow higher economic growth.

Lucky to live in the eternal city
Article Abstract:
Cities have traditionally been at the centre of economic life, but this may no longer be the case as telecommunications make it unnecessary for people to work in central locations. However, cities will not become redundant, as the office buildings which would become empty as people begin working elsewhere could be used for new purposes, such as entertainment. In this way, cities will retain their economic importance.

Revolution that will banish the city slog
Article Abstract:
The advent of the 21st century is encouraging people to analyse the problems which have developed in the world's largest cities over the last few decades. There is now a growing awareness of the social and economic costs of urbanisation, especially as rapid population growth continues in the developing world. Modern cities have become too large to be efficient, and it is now time to split them up into smaller units.
