Islamic gunmen challenge Yeltsin's rule
Article Abstract:
Troops from Russia's Interior Ministry are patrolling the streets of Makhachkala, the capital of the southern republic of Dagestan, after gunmen forced entry to a government building and put up an Islamic flag. It is believed that the gunmen are followers of a Muslim politician in the Russian parliament. It is not expected that Dagestan will seek independence from Russia, but some observers fear that a local war could break out, putting further pressure on the central government.

The grandson who believes it's time to rewrite history
Article Abstract:
Russian politician Alexander Kerensky does not deserve to be seen in the negative light in which he is generally portrayed, according to Stephen Kerensky, his grandson. He feels that his grandfather, who became head of Russia's Provisional Government in summer 1917 and remained in office until the Bolsheviks seized power in 1927, has been unfairly blamed by both the West and Russia for the mistakes which led to the KGB, collectivization, famine and the terror of the Stalin era.

What sort of champ is this?
Article Abstract:
Mike Tyson, former world heavyweight boxing champion, was found guilty of raping an entrant for the Miss Black America contest. In spite of attempts by his lawyers to discredit the woman, she gave evidence in a clear and candid manner. Tyson's testimony did him no favours. Nor did his main defence attorney's technique, or the location of the trial in Midwest Indiana where values are somewhat old-fashioned.
