Banks move to the virtual high street

Many leading UK banks are undertaking research which will lead to a range of personal computer-based banking services being launched in the near future. Bank of Scotland, for example, has already been operating a computer banking system for some time, but is soon to launch a personal computer banking service. Customers of Citibank, Lloyds and TSB are currently able to participate in a pilot electronic banking scheme.

Friendly societies go back to the future

The UK's friendly societies and trade unions are seeking to play a leading role in providing stakeholder pensions. The UK Civil Service Benevolent Society is holding talks on behalf of a number of friendly societies with top pensions providers.

I don't want to upset customers

There is evidence of high levels of dissatisfaction among customers of Lloyds TSB. Many have found it hard to talk to staff who have the required level of knowledge, and have suffered delays and contradictory information.
