Israeli peaceniks fear sinking into shadows
Article Abstract:
Peace Now, the most influential Israeli liberal peace movement, is discussing its tactics prior to a new round of peace negotiations. Many of its activists advocate mass rallies to push for peace and to goad prime minister Yitzhak Rabin into action. It is almost a year since the Labour government came to power and the left should be active, but the assuming of power seems to have quieted the calls of a year ago for an independent Palestine, for talks with the Palestine Liberation Organisation (PLO) and improvements of human rights in Palestine. Many Peace Now members are fearful that if they do not act soon they will lose the opportunity.

Believers' bloody battle for power
Article Abstract:
Hamas, the Islamic resistance movement in Israel, formed in 1988 by the Muslim Brotherhood as a military section, changed its policy to participate in elections to fight from within when Yitzhak Rabin became the new Labour Prime Minister on Jul 13 1992. There is support for Hamas in occupied territories: 30% of the people in the West Bank and 50% of those in Gaza support Hamas because of the link it makes between promulgating Islamic ideals and Palestinian nationalism.
