'I want you to tell me that you love me.' (actor Roy Scheider tells of changing relationship with father)(Revelations)
Article Abstract:
Actor Roy Scheider reached a turning point in his life when in 1971 he forced his father to say that he loved him. He had been physically abused by his father as a child, and had always felt that he could never make his father proud of him. However, he was prompted by being nominated for an Oscar for his role in the film 'The French Connection' to take steps to place his relationship with his father on a new footing. His father's view of him certainly seemed to change after that time.

'It's a trip for the gifted and you're not one of them.' (author David Leavitt tells of not being allowed to go on school trip)(Revelations)
Article Abstract:
Author David Leavitt feels that he was very negatively affected emotionally by not being allowed to go on a school trip at the age of 12 because he was not regarded as academically gifted enough. From that time, he became aware that he would have to fight for everything he wanted. He frequently worried about being excluded, and also developed anxieties about his emerging homosexuality. Not being able to go on the school trip will form a pivotal experience in his next book.
