'It's been a very weird week.' (pop singer Jyoti Mishra)(Interview)
Article Abstract:
It is not always necessary to make compromises to produce a successful pop record, according to Jyoti Mishra. 'Your Woman - Abort, Retry, Fail,' a song which he recorded in his own bedroom and released under the name White Town, has recently gone straight into the Radio 1 Top 40 chart at number one, a feat which has only been achieved a few times before. He feels that pop music is now a very accessible cultural form, and had no hesitation in using basic, secondhand equipment.

A bunch of charlatans
Article Abstract:
Rock and roll band The Charlatans has experienced a number of challenges since the release of its first album, 'Some Friendly,' in 1990. Most seriously, Hammond organist Rob Collins was killed in a road accident in Jul 1996. Despite adversity, the band has remained intact and has managed to produce some impressive music. This includes 'Tellin' Stories,' which is to be released shortly. The band is looking forward to a fresh start as it moves to the MCA record label.

'Talk among yourselves,' says Bono, 'we're just having a family row.' (new image for music group U2)
Article Abstract:
Music group U2 has been working on a new image for some time. This has culminated in 'Popmart,' a new concept of rock performance. The group's 'Popmart' world tour, which began on Apr 25, 1997, in Las Vegas, places strong emphasis on kitsch. It involves enormous quantities of equipment, and the tour is estimated to be costing $214,000 a day. However, it could gross $260 million. So far, the tour has not been impressive, with many signs of lack of rehearsal.
