It's life, Jim, but not as we know it
Article Abstract:
The National Gallery in London, England, is currently staging an exhibition of statues and paintings by Brazilian artist Ana Maria Pacheco. The main work in this exhibition is 'The Dark Night of the Soul,' an assembly of 20 wood-carved, polychrome figures. Her statues have great pent-up force, both individually and in relation to each other. Her pictures seem to lack a living presence, merely showing how her art looks when it is reduced to passion and imagery.

Article Abstract:
The Tate Gallery in London, England, is currently staging an exhibition of the work of German painter Lovis Corinth, who died in 1925. He suffered a stroke in 1911, but did not abandon painting. Indeed, his best pictures are all from the last five years of his life, particularly the portraits and self-portraits. His work is relatively unknown outside Germany, partly because it does not fit any of the usual categories of the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
