It's no holiday waiting in a sodden queue for passports
Article Abstract:
Thousands of Britons planning to travel abroad have been queuing outside Passport Agency offices in Glasgow, Scotland, London, England, and Liverpool, England. They represent a small proportion of the backlog of passport applicants, which now stands at 538,000. The delays in issuing new passports have resulted from a switch from a paper-based processing system to computers. The Passport Agency emphasizes that only 93 people have had to cancel a holiday because their passport was not issued in time.

Plight of the gypsies Britain branded as scroungers
Article Abstract:
The UK Home Office has accepted that Michal and Mariana Balog, gypsies from the Slovak Republic, should be granted asylum, as they had genuinely fled racial persecution. This is an embarrassing change of attitude on the part of the government, which had initially denounced the couple as economic migrants. Their case, along with three other favourable verdicts, will be used by lawyers as a test case for a large number of similar asylum applications.
