It's not just a question of pot luck
Article Abstract:
Pots can play a very useful role in the garden. They allow plants to be grown in areas where there is no soil, for example, and they can instantly improve a barren area. They are most effective when several are grouped together, and this technique also allows mixed planting. Containers are very useful for plants which may not survive in open ground, such as lilies. Plants which may be suitable for growing in containers include begonias, laurentia, grasses and mimulus.

Pots without petunias?
Article Abstract:
Trailing Surfinia petunias are traditionally a very popular plant to use in containers, but supplies have recently been withdrawn from sale because of problems with a virus disease. This means that gardeners are now having to look at alternative container plants. It is worth considering plants which would not normally be grown in a container, such as lilies, ivies and hydrangeas. Trailing plants are most effective, as they cover the edge of the container.
