Jeffrey Bernard says farewell
Article Abstract:
A number of close friends of Spectator columnist Jeffrey Bernard visited him at his flat in London, England, the day before he died. He was very frail physically, having decided to stop the dialysis which was keeping him alive. However, he seemed to welcome company. He was still able to entertain his guest by recounting tales from his unusual life, and it seemed to the visitors as if he were almost dictating his final column. They left with the faint hope that he may not die after all.

A vodka marked the spot as a low-life hero passed into legend
Article Abstract:
The funeral of Spectator columnist Jeffrey Bernard was attended by a very wide range of people, including those with whom he regularly conversed at the Coach and Horses pub in Soho, London, England. There were a number of past editors of the magazine, along with writers, former girlfriends and humourists. Many of those who attended were hardened cynics, and this meant that there was little chance of the occasion being surrounded by grandiose sentiment.
