Jimmy Skidmore
Article Abstract:
Tenor saxophonist Jimmy Skidmore began playing the saxophone at the age of 20. He had played with many well-known bands by the mid-1940s, including the Vic Lewis-Jack Parnell Jazzmen. He lacked the technical finesse required for studio work, but was greatly admired for the eloquence of his solo playing. In the 1950s, he worked for pianists Ralph Sharon and George Shearing, as well as for trumpeter Kenny Baker and in the big band headed by drummer Eric Delaney.
