Julius Tobias
Article Abstract:
Artist Julius Tobias studied in the evenings at the American Art School, but during the day worked as an elevator boy and then in the post office. He signed up for the US Army Air Force at the age of 27, and flew B16 bombing raids over Germany. He moved to Paris, France, on the GI Bill in 1948, and studied with Fernand Leger. He returned to New York, NY, in 1952, and was in an early group show in 1957 at the Brata Gallery. His first one-man show was in 1959 at the Esther Stuttman gallery.

Italo Scanga
Article Abstract:
Artist and teacher Italo Scanga was born in Lago, Italy, in 1932. He emigrated to the US in 1947 and served in the US Army before studying at Michigan State University. He taught first at the University of Wisconsin and then at the Tyler School of Art in Philadelphia, PA.

Stani Nitkowski
Article Abstract:
Artist Stani Nitkowski was born in La Poueze, France, in 1949. He was a self-taught painter, and held his first exhibition in a supermarket in 1974. He was regularly hospitalized for alcoholism.
