Kinnock boost for BA in row over selling landing slots
Article Abstract:
The European Transport Commissioner, Mr Neil Kinnock, has promised to make changes to the rules governing the sale of landing slots at European airports. Current law, that was agreed in 1993 by the Council of Ministers, prohibits the sale of take-off and landing slots at airports around the European Union. However, Mr Kinnock has promised to publish reform proposals that will allow the financial payment for slots in order to safeguard market entry and competition. These changes are unlikely to take effect for at least two or three years which will not help British Airways which must sell 267 of its slots at Heathrow in order to be given permission for its merger with American Airlines.
