Let's have a night in watching the Scophony
Article Abstract:
Michael Bennett-Levy has written the first guide to historic television sets, with a list of every pre-war model. A pre-war set would sell for about 1,000 pounds sterling. They usually have big valves and transformers, and a round cathode ray tube. Valuable models are those from 1948 to 1953. There are no known examples of pre-war Decca, Kostler Brandes, Bush or Scophony sets. Bennett-Levy's grandfather, Dr Leonard Levy, researched into phosphors which coated pre-war television screens and kept Britain prominent in television, radar and X-rays.

Make a bid for fame
Article Abstract:
There are now a number of auction houses which hold sales of celebrities' clothes. Christie's, for example, is shortly to hold sales which will include clothes worn by the Princess of Wales and Hollywood stars. It is vital to have proof of provenance when purchasing clothes which are claimed to have belonged to a celebrity, even when they are relatively modern items. Some observers feel that the market is becoming saturated, as shown at a recent Bonhams sale, where only 38% of the lots were sold.

Do not collect 200 pounds sterling. Collect 'Chutzpah.' (board games collecting)
Article Abstract:
Nineteenth century and early twentieth century board games are becoming collector's items, as board games retain their popularity. An auction in 1991 sold a collection of 5,000 games for 25,000 pounds sterling. Board games are still popular in the age group of 25-40 and there are active networks of enthusiasts throughout Britain. Despite competition from electronic games, the big manufacturers such as Waddington report the market as still healthy.
