Let's prepare for rates to rise
Article Abstract:
The UK economy is no longer under threat of immediate recession, and experts anticipate several more interest rate rises in the period to autumn 2000. A similar trend is taking place in the US, where investors expect the Federal Reserve to raise rates in Nov 1999. It is certain that standard variable mortgage rates will have to rise further in line with the base rate. Deposit rates are rising, but many banks and building societies are only offering the higher rates on certain accounts that are inexpensive to operate.
